At age eight, I
decided that my life's work would be anchored in creative efforts
when I completed a drawing of a charging bull. As a child, I
remember taking sticks and using them as pens and drawing with twigs
(pen) and ink and fashioning a car made from cardboard boxes on top
of a wagon. Later I studied painting and sculpting at a local art
school and was accepted to the Chicago Institute of Art for further
studies.
Due to my love
and drive to create, along with my ability to analyze and utilize
equipment, my creative career moved into commercial photography. In
1979, I opened my own commercial studio, working with advertising
agencies and businesses. In the early 90s, I pioneered digital
photography. This positioned me to sell my business, to the largest
printer in Indiana. At that time, my customer list included GE, RCA,
Miller Brewing, Dow Chemical, United Way and many more well known
companies.
Consistent with
the business philosophy of the time, rife with mergers and
acquisitions, the company that I worked for was sold and purchased
by Mail Well, a fortune 500 company and one of the largest printers
in the world. Five years later, the business model of the company
turned, eliminating my department and my position.
I then landed the
position of Photo Studio Director for Robinson May in Portland
Oregon responsible for producing digital photography and overseeing
a creative staff of 38, managing a $5.7 million budget, and
directing the production of more than 15,000 images annually for May
Department Stores direct mail advertising operations. In this
position, I enjoyed acting as a mentoring and assisting staff with
their professional development. In 2002, Robinson May merged their
Portland and Los Angels offices eliminating 600 jobs with mine
included.
In 2003, I
accepted a position with AMBROSI/MERIDIAN ADVERTISING, INC., Troy,
Michigan as a Photo Operations Manager responsible for overseeing a
creative staff of 36 and the digital photography operations for
Kmart and Martha Stewart Living.
After moving to
Michigan, I had the opportunity to participate in a variety of
service activities through my church and found it to be very
rewarding, serving on three boards. One of the boards provided
oversight and direction, and the others participated in activities
to fill the needs of local community members.
In 2005, I joined
LIFETOUCH/JOSTENS operations in Farmington Hills, Michigan as a
Photography
Manager. I successfully tested and implement new technology for the
company’s pursuit to convert to digital photography recruiting,
hiring and training over 40 photographers. This position also
afforded me an opportunity to provide mentoring to my staff. At that
time, I also entered the field of internet marketing exploring a
variety of business models.
At the dawn of
2008, I decided to follow my instincts and apply my skill set in
internet marketing full time, believing that my creative abilities,
technical knowledge, marketing experience and persistent and
diligent efforts were a good fit for this work. In July 2008, my
first membership site was launched to address the needs of the "baby
boomer" generation looking for ideas and solutions to reinvent
themselves. I felt that due to my life experiences I could put my
self in the shoes of others who had experienced being downsizing.
Affiliate marketing is also a strong part of my business as well as
product sales focusing on internet marketing information.
